Earlham Family Dentistry is a dental practice located in Earlham, Iowa. They wanted to have artwork updated for their advertisements at several school gymnasiums and requested that their logo be removed since they were no longer using it. I suggested that we give the design an overhaul (the original designs are above). Their previous designs had a lot of copy on them that would make them difficult to read from the stands across the gym. I recommended reducing the copy to the essentials: business name, number, and address. They requested that “Find us on Facebook” be included. I chose a cool color palette to have the association with “fresh” that goes well with dentists, as well as a teeth-inspired background to continue the motif. Using predominantly a rule of thirds grid, I also included some stock images of dental patients to help the viewer connect with the business on a more personal level. This design was displayed in three school gyms: on an LED screen, on an LCD screen, and on a printed backlit table. I adjusted the coloring for the backlit table to ensure that ink levels would remain consistent during printing and that the final product would still allow light to pass through.
